2023 – 2028 SNBSC Strategic Plan
In November 2021, the Government of New Brunswick published its plan for Local Governance Reform in a White Paper entitled “Working Together for Vibrant and Sustainable Communities”. Legislation was created to support the goals of that document, which included the requirement of Regional Service Commissions to develop a regional strategy aimed at
identifying the strengths and gaps in the region, and at establishing priorities and actions for implementation, especially with respect to the new and additionally mandated services.

The new services provided by the Southwest New Brunswick Service Commission include Economic Development, Tourism Promotion, Community Development, Regional Transportation (community transit), and the establishment of a Public Safety Committee. Although recreational infrastructure cost-sharing was also included in the new mandates for regional service commissions, SNBSC had already adopted a policy to that effect early in the year 2021, resulting from the creation of a recreation master plan for the region. It is a great pleasure to have taken part along with all other Board members and committee members in developing this Five-Year Strategic Plan for our Southwest New Brunswick Services Commission (SNBSC). The process of developing this plan in a collaborative and inclusive approach, and the Board’s commitment to its implementation, demonstrates SNBSC’s ability to lead regional efforts and be a forum for collaboration, communication, and regional support.
This strategic plan was created with support and input from the various committee members, stakeholders, and subject matter experts from our various communities. SNBSC was successful in holding several in-person, virtual, and hybrid workshops and meetings over a period of many months to engage stakeholders and receive their input. Stakeholder participation was foundational in creating the Vision, Mission, and Strategic Priorities of this plan, to address areas that were deemed lacking and to build on the strengths we have.
